Coming from musical foundations such as 'Death', Possessed' and 'Venom', this Dutch 4 piece seem to have taken some valuable lessons in how to produce a genuinely scary collection of tracks on this reissue of their original MCD 'Necromantic Love Songs' from back in 1993 on Blackened Recordings. For 23 years, all the tracks seem to have aged very well and drip with as much atmosphere and bloody imagery now as I'm sure they did back then. I would go as far to say that these guys were most likely some of the forerunners of this genre, as they were around pretty much from the inception of the black metal scene.
As I listen, the lights are off with a single candle flickering. For a scary musical fix, 'Necromantic Love Songs' is being set to its intended purpose of drawing you in while fraying your nerves slowly. A tap on the shoulder at that moment could possibly see me jumping out of my skin with fright.
Not gonna happen, but you get the picture.
In short this is a record that oozes atmosphere, and mires you perpetually in a world of blood soaked horror from the fetid depths with the track 'Splattered Remains' ramming this feeling home poignantly. I feel very privileged to be one of very few that will ever get to own this black metal classic reissued with only 1000 CDs being written and 666 LPs being printed (333 each of 2 versions).
Every self respecting black metal fan needs to own this. Get in there quick or you really are missing out.
