WORTH A CHECK!!

Sourvein have been a band beset by problems from their humble beginnings over twenty years ago in Carolina Beach. Living a hand to mouth existence, with a reliance on joe jobs and band income all in the name of keeping the music and creative juices flowing. For this, Sourvein's front man and founder member T-Roy has my utter respect.

Saying this though Sourvein's album Aquatic Occult is very much an acquired taste.  This album is heavy, and by that I mean leaden heavy.  If you're expecting expertly put together riffage, thunderous bass and drums with brutal vocals, then stop right where you are and turn around. 'Aquatic Occult' is none of these things, but heavy - most definitely.  To sum up this recording in a few words, I would say Black Sabbath with a ton of doom laden sludge and a bucket full of anguished but hopeful soul.  The whole thing is laced with a depressive charm, which is what kept me listening to the end.

I have a feeling that 'Aquatic Occult' will be an underground classic in coming years.  I honestly don't know if I'll be following but I will most certainly bear a lasting respect for T-Roy's success story.

Words by Paul Clarke.
